Reggie turns four

When Reggie woke up on Sunday morning, he walked out of his room to find red balloons all around the living room (that Brent and I had put up after he went to sleep), and he gasped in wonder and said, ‘Who did this?!’ He was so thrilled. Lucy woke up shortly thereafter and I told her today was Reggie’s birthday so now he is four, but Reggie looked up at me and said, ‘No mummy, I am not four: I have not had a cake!!’ So that afternoon we invited all our neighbours from our village and our old neighbours from the other village and squeezed everyone into our house and had a cake so Reggie could turn four.

When everyone didn’t fit inside anymore, they spilled outside. Lucy had the time of her life, mostly eating other people’s food.

Reggie really just wanted to play outside. He actually got a bit shy with the singing and the cake and kept running away to hide (including into the hallway to ‘brush his teeth’ !!!) which I hadn’t seen him do before, but I suppose it was a lot of attention on him.

I guess he missed the memo to smile in this photo (or just really didn’t want his picture taken!) He adores these guys: if ever he disappears and I can’t find him playing outside with the other kids, I can be almost guaranteed to find him ‘at Puia’s house.’

Eventually Reggie did disappear with the other kids and Brent and Lucy and I walked our old neighbours back to the other village.

We had such a special day and we are so grateful to God for four wonderful years with our boy.
